Defensible Space is defined as the required space between a structure and wildland area that, under normal conditions, creates a sufficient buffer to slow or halt the spread of wildfire to a structure. Having a properly maintained defensible space around your home is crucial to it’s survival in a wildfire.

While old standards called for 30’, it is now well understood that 30’ is insufficient. The new standard is 100’.
