I-Zone Tutorial - Wildfire Basics
We feel that this is best done in four stages (the four “E’s”).
This tutorial is Stage 1: Education. Our research shows that most homeowners have wild misconceptions about fire, the abilities of Fire Departments, and really do not know how houses catch fire in the I-Zone. You probably think that most houses catch fire when the wildfire burns up to and then into the house. This is incorrect!
Keep this fact in mind; many of the houses that burned in 2008 had tile roofs, stucco walls and were considered “fireproof”.
So how did they burn? It is very difficult to protect your house when you don’t know what to protect against. We’ll explain what you should do annually to prepare for a wildfire in your area, as well as how to “sell” your home to the fire departments as a defensible property in the event that you are evacuated. We will also discuss ways to stay alive and to protect your home if you are trapped by fire. Hundreds of people died in Australia in 2008 from wildfire! Let’s make sure you don’t.
