Before wildfire season, put together and maintain an emergency kit and an evacuation kit.  Suggested items for both of these kits can be found in our checklist section.

If a wildfire approaches, be sure to change into protective clothing: sturdy leather shoes or boots, long sleeved shirt and pants made of natural fibers (cotton or wool) and a hat or better yet, a helmet (falling branches, etc). This will give you some protection from flying embers and radiant heat. You should also wear leather gloves, goggles (not just glasses because blowing embers will get past and into your eyes) and something to cover your nose and mouth.
