I-Zone Tutorial - Personal Safety

We highly recommend that you evacuate well in advance of the fire. Many deaths are attributed to people who waited too long to leave and were trapped in the fire without protection. Your home is actually an excellent shelter from the fire, particularly if it is correctly prepared, hardened and has water/sprinklers available. While we DO NOT recommend this, we know that many people will stay and defend their property.

It is a well documented fact that the odds of your home’s survival go up enormously if it is defended by a homeowner with a good water system. However, you MUST understand the risks you take by staying! In essence you have chosen to become a Firefighter! Planning should include all of the property and home preparation AND preparing yourself to fight fire. You will need the same gear a firefighter wears including fire resistant clothing, eye and respiratory protection, and a fire shelter as your last chance to survive should you be overwhelmed by fire.
