I-Zone Tutorial - Structure Protection

Roof sprinklers (either temporary or permanently installed) are an excellent way of protecting your home from these embers. Sprinklers not only extinguish any burning embers that land on your roof, but also saturate your gutters (and any debris that may have accumulated), cool the roof's surface temperature and increase the humidity around your home. With roof sprinklers, the same wind that is blowing the embers into your house will also blow the water droplets from the sprinklers into the same places. This is extremely effective in protecting your home from catching fire.

Saturating your home’s perimeter (decks, fences, outbuildings, play equipment and landscaping) prior to a fire’s approach with water or fire retardant gels/foams can also help decrease their ignitability, lessening the chance of them igniting your home. This is only effective if done within a few hours of a fire’s approach because the high heat and low humidity that accompanies fire will dry these areas very quickly.
